Motions and Potions: Coconut Oil & Monistat

I'm new to the oils so I can't vouch for if extra virgin oil is better than organic or any other types of labels the manufacturers use to make consumers think their product is better than others.

I have suffered with ezcema on and off since my pre-teen years. Sometimes, it seemed to rear its ugly head in the summer-mind you East Coast summers which ain't no joke. Sometimes it would pop up because of stress. Nonetheless, it has never been too far away. As you all know, I am on a hair health/growth journey. My favorite natural hair site, Black Girl With Long Hair did a post on psoriasis and the various topical treatments that could help alleviate the issue. Another post was also raised about the various characteristics of the many oils on the market. On both counts coconut oil got some good reviews for skin. Well, that day (bloggers don't underestimate your power) I went to the nearby health food stores in my area and stocked up on oils-coconut being one of them.

Like I said I'm on a  hair growth challenge and I stumbled across some YouTube videos about the use of Monistat for hair growth. There were both Black and White women raving about the growth that they experienced with Monistat or Miconazole Nitrate (MN-the active ingredient in Monistat). They either diluted it with water and oils or applied it directly to the scalp like you mama used to apply grease when you were younger. Supposedly kills the bacteria on your scalp thus encouraging hair growth. So, I tried it. Obviously, there is more bacteria on my scalp than I realized because I am using it (undiluted) and will continue to use it. The results are that good. The stuff really works. Some YouTubers said it gave them headaches but I didn't have any of that and I'm to the point where I'm putting it on heavier than before.

However, with every positive, there is a negative. Ever since I used the MN, I have noticed eczema on my neck. I'm thinking since my head is sweating as I sleep, the Monistat (or generic brand MN) gets on my neck and has caused my latest breakout with the Eczema. Well, I thought since I received all this information about the benefits of coconut oil (commenters, don't underestimate your power either) I began applying it to my neck once or twice a day. Within three days, my eczema was gone. When i thought I was grown and stopped using it after a week hasd gone by, the eczema, not all of it but a small patch started to creep back on me. So I'm back to applying it everyday and have included saturating my skin with it as well. I usually just use vaseline on my face but I figured, coconut oil would give me the same effect without being so heavy.
