Motions & Potions: Product Reviews

Motions Naturally You Hydrate My Curls (HYC) is THE truth. I have 4b/4c hair. It is pretty soft naturally but it never hurts to put a little extra to give it a bit more help to last throughout the day and to make it shine. This product I apply at night  as I braid or flat twist my hair. I secure my scarf and go to sleep. The next morning I undo the twists and braids and I am greeted with soft shiny hair. Yay!!! I have been so jealous of other naturals who have staple products. Now I have one. Hip-Hip-Hooray:) I want to try the rest of their line of products.

Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Hold Smoothie - 12 oz.I have made a commitment not to buy any more products until I use what I already have. So I have not been able to buy another bottle of Hydrate My Curls but I do have a bottle of Shea Moisture's Curl Enhacing Smoothie which is okay. It is a good secondary product. The product goes a long way. I don't know what they put in it but I'll use quite a bit the same way I do with the Hydrate Your Curls and the next day, the product expands back as if I haven't used it. This product makes my hair feel soft and strong. It is not as greasy at HYC which is probably why is doesn't give me any shine.

I am not a natural that shies away from grease. When I was a child all my mom used was grease and my hair was mid-back length. So when people make the claim that grease is bad, I respond "If grease is so bad, how is it that your hair was at its longest and strongest when thats all your mom used?" Of course, I get a blank stare. Anyway, enough naturals incorporate grease into their regimen and their hair is just fine. So I'm on a hunt for which one works for me if any as they are definitely much more cost effective than other products. I used this Softee Indian Hemp (SIH) much like I did with the other moisturizers-apply at night before and during braiding it up and setting it for the night. This gave me great curl definition but my hair was dry. I'm thinking of mixing it with other things the next time I use it.
