Black Women are just starting to learn about how to take care of their natural hair. After 400+ years of being told that black beauty is non-existent, Black women are realizing just like everything else, it was all a lie. Relaxers have been on the decline since 1997 and natural hair is the fastest growing hairstyle in the US. Type in black hair care on any search browser and one is flooded with all kinds of communities, all natural product lines, advice, and tips on black hair care.
As any black woman will tell you, learning to love one’s God-given hair is a psychological as well as physical journey. It takes a lot of time, patience, and support. Going against a white standard of beauty and black male preferences (which usually upholds that same standard of beauty regardless of what black men say) is difficult. But so does working with processed black hair.
Being a black woman on this planet is difficult but black women as a group are no wilted flowers. They are strong and are doing the damn thing no matter what others have to say about it.I love Black Women. Black Womanhood is the greatest sorrority on the planet and its getting even stronger day by day.
Check out my one year hair challenge.
