How to know When You Need More Sleep

People, animals, and even the soil from which we get our food needs rest. It is an important part of the cycle of life. God said in Genesis 1 that night was purposed for sleep. And God made an example out of Himself by saying that He rested on the Seventh Day. I know in America we pride ourselves on going to sleep late and getting up early. Or we fear missing our favorite crappy show if we go to bed when we should go to bed but our bodies are selfish (for our own good). They need attention and they need to be obeyed because otherwise they rebel. Some of us are fine on 5 hours of sleep but most of us are not. Here are some telltale signs that you need rest.

1) Bags under the eye. There's nothing that messes up make-up or makes us look 10 years older like the duffel bags that collect under our eyes.

2) You feel like you're not as intelligent as you once were. You feel like your brain is not as sharp as it used to be. Well, consider the fact that you might not be getting enough rest. When your computer acts funny, one of the easiest ways to repair it is to shut it down and restart it. That is what rest is for our brains. Rest allows our bodies and our brains to work better.

3) You're barely on time or consistently late for work. The alarm clock goes off. You set it for 5-15 more minutes, only to wake up an hour later. If you wish to, I don't know, keep your job, than you need to schedule that duty for another day and get to bed an hour or two earlier. When you wake up, you should be ready for the day not dragging.

4) You wake up and think when I get home, I'm going take a nap.

5) You nap at work.

6) You say 'you're not a morning person'.   This line is so weird. Saying you're not a morning person is like saying you're not a life person. People who say this makes me question if they have depression.

Things that can help:

1) Getting into bed earlier (obviously)

However sleep can be elusive for some people. In such cases

1) Talk to a sleep doctor, psychiatrist, and therapist. This person might be able to perscribe medication.

2) Pray

3) Meditate

4) Fill your life with positivity. Turn off the (c)rap and listen to some Gospel music. Turn off the reality shows and watch reruns of TV classics on TV Land.

5) Write. Journal your day.

6) Stop procrastinating. My friend said the guilt from procrastination can cause your spirit to be upset and can lead to lack of sleep.

7) Volunteer. There is something spooky about being a blessing to someone else. A rose given is just as sweet for the giver as it is for the receiver.

8) Eat better.
