I believe in the power of prayer. A week ago, I prayed that God raise the stock of Black women. Let us be seen as beautiful and valuable and just simply be loved as women. God opened my eyes and said without saying, 'I've already started'. I really do believe the perm/weave era of Black haircare hurt us more than it helped us. In its own way conceded that White hair is better. Thus, reducing our own beauty. One has to be blind not to see that Black women are letting go of the perms and weaves and are embracing their God given (abundant) beauty. With blogs like Black Girl with Long Hair and CurlyNikki and of course YouTube, the plethora of naturals have increase dramatically. Naturals are enjoying greater confidence, compliments, and just the peace of knowing that 'I am ok'. Contentment is the greatest beauty ointment in the world.
Also, I don't know about you but I am seeing more ads with natural black women in them. My local Target is filled with Black women rocking the kinks. And the latest statement that things are changing is the latest installment of 'Charlies Angels' on ABC. Yes, Charlies Angels. I know you've seen the ads on the bus and on the billboards when you drive to work. Do you notice the Black woman damn near in the center of the ad? Go on facebook and like the page. No, I'm not going to post it because

Another proof that God is up to something is the rise of Black Women's Empowerment blogs which are damn near beating Black women black and blue trying to get them to look elsewhere (besides the black community) for spouses. America is running over with available men who Black women do not have to hide their degrees or settle for less than chivalrous behavior in order to get a man. I've been hard on BWEs but I would be a fool to say they aren't doing a great work. It is taking Black women some time to even acknowledge that some Black men do not like Black women and even if they do, do not have the means to support a family. We must move on. Interracial marriages between Black women and white men have been increasing steadily. These interracial marriages tend to have strong disposable incomes which may be the real reason we're seeing more and more black women in ads and on Charlies' Angel. Isn't it interesting? When white men date out, they pick among the best of black women. When black men date out, they are proud to have the scraps of White and Asian womandom (video hos, trailer trash, illegal immigrants, little to no education).
Black women are slowly but surely letting Black men go and loving who loves them back. When Jill Scott winced about interracial marriage, she got some strong flack from Black women saying practically move the hell on. Black women are growing up.
Everytime I meet a Black woman, whether she has a child or not, she is working on a Masters, writing a play thats soon to be produced, getting her doctorate, saving up for a house-or buying one, getting published, running a side business, studying the ins and outs of an industry so she can get in the market and increase her income. Black women are hustlin' and doing big things. I wouldn't be surprised if the wealth that black people have gained is in large part due to Black women. Keep going sistahs. Don't get discouraged. Endurance is key.
In the meantime, I'm gonna keep praying and handlin' my own business. Onward to freedom.
