In light of the Sandusky child sex scandal, the NCAA issued the following sanctions on the once great college:
The victims- this is nothing compared to what Sandusky did and the others hid. The victims may/will be scarred for life.
The alumni- I hold my alma mater (which actually means mother of my soul) dear to my heart. My college wasn't the perfect school but you can't say that...lol. I cannot imagine what Penn State's alumni might be going through with their school's dirty laundry being aired for all the country to see. I'm also concerned about the more recent alumni who are trying to forge their career. I can imagine prospective employers looking side ways at their resumes or asking questions about the case during interviews. Say it with me "AWKWARD".
The current students-I can imagine current students wanting to head out of there as fast as possible. If they're freshman or sophmore, they have time. However, if they're juniors or seniors, transferring may not be an option. I can't imagine how eery it has been for them for the last year.
The community-Football made this college town bookoo money. With PSU's punishment, all the restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, and other businesses that have depended on PSU's strong athletic seasons will undoubtedly be affected for the worse...as if any business needs another reason in this tough economy to close shop.
Ironically, this was the first day I looked into this trial closely. Sandusky and all those swept his abuse under the rug for so many years need to be hung from the highest tree and that tree needs to be set on fire. This man was beyond sick. Those who swept his actions under the rug are brain dead. Life in prison costs the state of Pennsylvania too much damn money. Kill this man and save the taxpayer some money. It's a recession people.
Penn State Punishments:A few things swirl in my mind:
•$60 million fine, representing approximately one year of football revenues. These funds will go to child sex abuse awareness programs
•4-year bowl game ban.
•Scholarship reduction, cap lasting four years.
•Any entering, returning football student athlete can transfer immediately. Presuming academic requirements are met, these potential transfers can play immediately.
•PSU vacates all wins from 1998-2011. The loss of 111 career wins drops Joe Paterno from atop the all-time wins list to 12th.
•PSU begins a five-year probationary period, with the NCAA reserving the right to implement further punishments.
