SUE NAOMI SUE!

Above is the latest advertisement from Cadbury (owned by Kraft Foods). How many things wrong with this advertisement is there? Did they get permission from her? No. Personally, I have no problem with people referring to black people as chocolate. However, using someone's name without their permission, playing on their negative image  and an overarching negative stereotype of black women, AND throwing diamonds in the pic knowing her alleged connection to blood diamonds is beyond insulting on so many levels.

Campbell responded, "I am shocked. It's upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people. I do not find any humor in this. It is insulting and hurtful." Naomi Campbell is considering "every option available," including a lawsuit.

Simon Woolley of the UK's Operation Black Vote, called for a boycott of the brand's products, adding, "Racism in the playground starts with black children being called 'chocolate bar.'"

Cadbury's response, "It was certainly never our intention to cause any offense and the campaign itself is a light-hearted take on the social pretensions of Cadbury Dairy Milk Bliss."

What? Cadbury was 'just playin' when they decided to insult a private person and play on negative stereotypes for their own advancement? Who the hell is running this company? I'm not buying it. Cadbury, you knew exactly what you were doing. This controversy would give you more press than anything you could pay for and insulting someone that does not have the best reputation doesn't excuse you.  Shame on Cadbury. Shame on Kraft. So glad I didn't buy their (Kraft) cheese and none of their condiments over the weekend for my barbeque.

I got this article from the left-leaning liberal blog Huffington Post. Those (white) liberals who scream and boycott about any infraction against women and people of color were damn near laughing at the advertisement. She deserved it for what she did is the gist of most of their comments. If it were any other supermodel they would've cried sexism or at least infraction of privacy and the President of Kraft would've had his head spinning with the amount of complaints they would've received. However, Naomi who has a questionable past and so neatly fits into the  angry black woman stereotype doesn't deserve the basic right to be left out of a campaign THAT  DIDNT EVEN SEEK HER PERMISSION TO USE HER NAME AND RESPONDED AS IF IT WAS NO DAMN BIG DEAL. Black people unless your last name is Obama, a criminal, welfare queen, Bush-hater, race baiter, gay, illegal, mammy, Oprah worshipper, or Christianity hater you have no friends among the liberals (black or white). Even if you fit any or all of those categories your relationship is tentative and misguided at best.   


However there is hope. One commenter said:

I cannot wait for the ad: "Move over Kate, there is a new diva in town" for there new white vanilla chocolate. Or, "Move over Lucy Liu, there is a new diva in town" for there new lemon flavored white chocolate.

I can't wait either. Cadbury KNEW Naomi was fair game and this is in the UK where race relations are not as icy as in the US. Man, do we have a long way to go.
