I'm an avid reader. Love it. Throw out my TV. Destroy all the movie theatres but for the love of God if something ever happens to Borders, Amazon, or the book section of my local Target, I'd be a wreck (albeit even more than I actually am). Right now, I'm reading a book about an overweight white woman and her musings about life. I won't give the title because I don't want her to sue me. She lives in New York so I'm sure she could use the extra money. Anyway, every chapter she talks about a different subject, none very serious but it is a light-hearted look over another womans shoulder and shes managed to get me to laugh quite a few times which is every natural worrier's dream. Literally, every other page there's a jab at her weight. Now, I know black women struggle with the extra pounds but I really do believe we are not as haunted about wearing double digit jeans as other races of women are.
That may be due to black men's universal ability to enjoy a curvy woman or just the fact that black women actually look better with a 'little meat on their bones' or wear weight much better than other races of women ( a size 12 black woman looks better than a size 12 white/asian/other woman any day of the week). However, other than our overall beautiful ageless sunkissed skin, I believe our overall (better) appreciation for our bodies in all its sizes is a plus. As I said before several times, I am trying to get down to a size 8 and I put myself through enough daily self-loathing as any red-blooded American woman but can you imagine being a white woman where a size 6 is considered overweight/obese? or an Asian woman who is anything heavier than 120lbs? Lord help. Even health-conscious black women don't want to be anything smaller than a size 6 and thinner black women (of all shades) have a harder time with black men than their curvier sisterfriends all the time. In fact, most of you can agree that if we start sliding in the weight department Grandma starts getting nervous. You alright baby?
Am I saying Black women shouldn't lose weight where need be so they can live healthier lives? No. However Black women seem to be given a little more slack en route. Praise the Lord!

At least until we lose too much weight and other women (of all races) start hating because they feel threatened or they no longer have a friend to wallow in self pity anymore.
